Moving into a new home is a dream come true for many; especially if you were involved in the construction right from scratch. It is a culmination of several months of hard work. That makes the house warming or Grihapravesham ceremony a very important one. It is a proud moment when you can show the world how your dreams have taken shape.
Fixing the date for the house warming ceremony
- First of all you should have a clear idea on how you plan to conduct the housewarming ceremony. Whether it is a private function with just you and your family, or a larger one with a longer guest list. If it is the latter, it would be more convenient to conduct it over a weekend. Get your dates/muhurtham in accordance with this and communicate with your construction contractor at the earliest.
The final touches before the Grihapravesham
- It is a common sight in many houses that the finishing works happen in full swing on the eve of the housewarming. This not only puts the house owner and the contractor under pressure, but also increases the possibility of shoddy work. To avoid this make sure that you give ample notice to all the stakeholders.
- Do a finishing coat of the painting only after all civil work, electrical, plumbing, tiling and carpentry works are completed. It is also okay to postpone the final coating of painting to be done after the house warming ceremony.
- Plan to lay, polish and point the floor tiles at least 2 days before the housewarming day. If you are using granite flooring, it has to be polished. Similarly make sure you polish the wooden floors too.
- Wood polishing is a time consuming job, therefore if your design includes polishes wooden windows, doors, cupboards, furniture etc, factor in sufficient time.
- Hand rails in staircases, balcony etc need to be fixed. Compound walls, landscaping, gate fixing etc are jobs that are easily missed out. Plan to complete them before the Big day as it has a huge impact on enhancing the looks of your new building.
Interior Decor
- It would be good to get help from a professional interior designer.
- Fix a theme/colour scheme and stick to it. Choose your furniture, curtains, upholstery, fabrics etc and get them ready.
- Move in your furniture and arrange them properly.
Exterior Decor
- Complete your landscaping/tiling works before the Grihapravesham day.
Paper work
- The last stage is the procedural completion where you need to get the Completion certificate , Occupancy Certificate, Building permit, building number etc from the departments concerned.
